“LEAFY SEA DRAGON”
inspiration
Yes, this remarkable creature really does exist. Growing up to 9 inches, it lives in the waters off Australia, is related to sea horses, and can change color for camouflage like an octopus. Its delicate leafy fins allow it to hide in seaweed.
technique
Using aluminum sculpting wire I created an armature, covered it with epoxy, attached acrylic fins and painted the dragon with acrylic paint. This little critter kept changing her camouflage colors, making her a challenge to paint! She swims suspended on an acrylic rod.
materials
